Amazing, Talented, Full of Life, Positive, Beautiful, Fun, Creative, and more can all be said about Lolita Sweet and you feel it while listening to her music. The San Francisco native now eyes more than just the local scene.
Producer, writer and singer Lolita Sweet completed her Debut album “I’m taking Applications” in December 2008 and released her single in 2009. Her love of music and drive started from birth and it was just a matter of time before the world would be touched by her music. Lolita brings a refreshing new sound with a charismatic flair to the music industry. With a style that is a blend of sassy new and old school, Lolita Sweet truly demonstrates her natural talent.
Lolita Sweet has been entertaining family and friends with her beautiful voice from the age of three and started writing poetry a short time later. Lolita’s talent and passion for music grew as she continued to produce, write and perform. Lolita has said, “Writing my own lyrics and melodies to instrumental songs belonging to such greats as Joe Sample, Kenny G, and Boney James helped me establish my own smooth sultry sound and style.” Today, she is ready to give something back to her fans that have supported her from the very beginning and have waited in anticipation.
“I’m Taking Applications” is a compilation of original and sweetly stylized songs. I worked with the some of the best musicians and producers to pull out the “Lolita” in me. I couldn’t have picked a better person to collaborate with than vocal producer, Claytoven Richardson, who sang background vocals on countless gold and platinum recordings and Darryl Ross, songwriter, producer, and musician, who has received multiple gold and platinum records, was a complete joy to work with.
This past December, Lolita Sweet was invited to perform by Mme. Le Aimei, wife of Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China and Mme. Qin Xiaomei, Vice President of the Association of Former Diplomats of China at their 2008 New Years Eve Gala Party in Beijing, China. Lolita performed songs from her debut CD, “I’m Taking Applications and her also recently released Holiday single, “A Merry Little Christmas” for over a hundred international ambassadors and dignitaries at the Beijing Jintai Art Gallery in Chaoyang Park. Upon her return back to the US in late December, a VIP CD Launch Event was held in the San Francisco Bay Area, her hometown, to a sold out crowd.
Following the release of the CD, Lolita with her band, “Raw Suga” have performed at many events around the Bay Area including a headlining performance at the famous Yoshi’s Jazz Club in San Francisco on April 21st. Tickets sold out in advance to Yoshi’s performance competing with a Bay Area concert by Mary J bilge on the same evening. Lolita and her band have also performed at the Black Film Festival, San Francisco & Vallejo’s Juneteenth Festivals and special events though out the Bay Area. Lolita Sweet, and her band Raw Suga, will be touring thoughout the United States and abroad.
Lolita Sweet’s Band, “Raw Suga” is made up of talented musicians from the Bay Area and beyond including Jaime Brewer (bass player for the Whispers), classically trained keyboardist, Victoria Theadore (keyboards for Stevie Wonder) and Lynette Williams (keyboards for Black Eyed Peas), Cam “FunkyCam” Perridge (guitar), Dale Chung (percussions for Con Funk Shun), Altoris Levar (drums), and Blyss (bass player for Outkast, Black Eyed Peas) – The audience and fans are screaming and shouting about the hip sounds and grove of such a diverse band. Raw Suga is comprised of some of the hottest talent in the Bay Area.
The excitement has brought Lolita Sweet to the attention of Judge Al Bradley, former manager for James Brown. After listening to her remarkable work, Judge Bradley took an interest in helping her seek her musicial/career entertainment goals and is now working closely with Lolita Sweet.
With the support of Lolita’s dedicated and growing fan base, she updates and maintains a consistent presence on MySpace (MySpace.com/LolitaSweetMusic) with a growing friends list of over 2,000. MySpace has been a platform, as with many musicians to spread the word on the debut CD and promote other awareness vehicles such as the Independent Music Network, where Lolita has steadily rising on the charts due to votes from fans.
I would like to thank God for providing and allowing me to share my gift with all of you. I am happy to present to you my first album which is comprised of a variety of diverse compositions that touch many musical genres. My desire was to bring to you an album with a range in selection that can be enjoyed by all. Some may think that an artist should try to stick to one genre but I just found this too restrictive given my true love and appreciation for all music and playing the role of writer, singer, and producer. My goal was simply to create good music!
Family, friends, life’s lessons, loves and experiences are thoughtfully expressed throughout the collection of songs on the album.
The importance of history, family, and life were passed on to Lolita by her parents and Grandparents, Carey’s & Mabrey’s of Calvert, Texas and San Francisco and Head’s, Redding’s, & Hightowers of Macon, Georgia and Abroms of Florida. “They have taught me to enjoy life as it is today, and most importantly, they have strengthened my belief in God! I’d like to thank them all for their impacts, achievements, and sacrifices that have made me the person I am today.”
Last but not least, I would like to thank my sponsors who believed in me and supported my transition including, BAYE Limousines, Jaguar, Hall Wines, Oakland Post, Sherman Clay, and Siebert, Brandford & Shank, just to name a few. Lolita is also dedicated to building awareness and support for NFTE (The National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship) whose mission is to provide entrepreneurship education programs to young people from low-income communities and ensure that every young person will find a pathway to prosperity.
